I’m not quite sure how to explain this article. It’s interesting, that’s one thing i can definitely say about it. How do you measure pi? What is the nature of reality? Can math explain everything there is? What if we are nothing more than a big complex mathematical equation? (is that a bad thing if we are)?

It portrays some mathematical concepts such as pi, phi (the golden ratio), the butterfly effect, and fractals in a very clever and simple to understand manner. But it doesn’t stop there. It also talks about computer simulations, how mathematics coupled with computers can be used to virtually model (or simulate) anything physical, provided you have good enough hardware and understand what you’re simulating well enough – even including the universe itself.

It does all this in the form of a narrative between a young boy who is throwing rocks into a pond watching the ripples expand, and his father explaining what a circle is. Then just like the circles, the discussion expands to include all the concepts i mentioned above.
