As part of our Christmas eve festivities, the girls prepared a treat for us:
Every now and again i get one of those emails that says “fill me out and send to all your friends”. Usually i read them, but don’t actually fill them out to return or pass on. (i’m the one that’s always listed as ‘least likely to fill this out’)
Anyway, i thought since i haven’t written any blog entries lately that i’d fill this one out on here and post it for everyone to see. It’s titled “A Christmas get to know you”.
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Need you ask? lol
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
> A little of both, but most are in the stockings instead of under the tree. Scott and I want the credit for giving the good stuff, so Santa’s gifts are usually pretty modest.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
white is so … boring
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Yes, even though Alex was very upset that i wouldn’t let him hang it in his room.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
I do the lights around thanksgiving, then let the kids go crazy with everything else
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
whatever luann makes
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
waking up before everyone else, turning on the tree lights, and sitting in the dark trying to guess what was in the presents
(without actually opening them btw…)
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I _AM_ santa! muah hahahaha
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Scott’s mom always gives us PJs to open on Christmas eve. It always feels so good to wake up Christmas morning in new PJs.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
We get the tree up and lit, lay out all the ornaments (most of them funky home-made ornaments that Scott and I made as kids, or that our kids have made) and let the kids have at it. After they finish and the kids aren’t looking, sometimes I rearrange a few of them because the ornaments seem to cluster on the bottom two-thirds of the tree because that’s where the kids can reach.
except, don’t forget, the bottom half of the tree is all plastic baby-g safe ornaments. the new “nice” ornaments we have are waaaaay up top
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
hate it – have to clear off my car in the morning, and maybe even shovel the driveway. good for snowboarding, except that i never go.
12. Can you ice skate?
easy as pie. my grandma signed me up for lessons one year and i just went onto the ice the first time and started skating around while all the other kids were slipping and falling and clustered around the teacher. i don’t think i went back to any more lessons.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
my mom recently asked me this; i couldn’t really think of any one gift that stands out. growing up i always enjoyed getting the latest star wars toy, or a new lego set.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
watching the kids have fun as they enjoy the holidays. hopefully taking a nice vacation every year when they move out!
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
everything. well, except that orange chocolate … who the hell came up with that? ick!
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
We all lay on the floor with our heads under the Christmas tree and looking up at the lights on the tree. While we lay there we listen to the Hallelujah Chorus for Handel’s’ Messiah as loudly as the speakers will allow.
it’s also about our only tradition at this point. i mean, we drive around to look at lights, go up to temple square to see the lights, open christmas presents, go see my parents, etc.. but they’re not really traditions, more just things to do
17. What tops your tree?
a star that won’t seem to light on one side…
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
i don’t mind giving, but i hate never really knowing what to give. i think everyone should make a christmas registry at some online site and then everyone would know what i want, what’s already taken (nothing worse than a duplicate gift), and could go from there.
side-note: it’s always fun to see what i get, and then go buy whatever i didn’t get that i really wanted… (it’s good to be dad)
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song(s)?
although some might claim it’s “noise” more than “music”, i just love the kandy korn kids christmas album (email me for a copy … i don’t think you can actually purchase it anywhere – i went to great pains to convert the old vinyl record my parents had into a digital format)
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
hard canes – not so much; soft canes – good in small doses
