I began reading The Wheel of Time in 1994 shortly after Luann and I were married. We were wanding around the mall and went into a bookstore. I saw a display which contained a free edition of the first half of the first book. I thought it was worth giving it a try. I’m glad I did. It’s easily one of the (if not THE) most detailed and amazing fantasy worlds i’ve ever come across. It was intended to be a 12 book series, but as i posted about here, the author passed away before he was able to complete the final novel. Fortunately, before he passed he was able to complete part of the book and dictate copious notes to his editor (and wife).

Tor (the publishing company) has just announced that Brandon Sanderson has been asked by Robert Jordan’s wife to finish the book and has accepted. He is quoted as saying “I’m both extremely excited and daunted by this opportunity. There is only one man who could have done this book the way it deserved to be written, and we lost him in September. However, I promise to do my very best to remain true to Mr. Jordan’s vision and produce the book we have all been waiting to read.”

A Memory of Light is scheduled for a fall 2009 release.
